I’ve gotta say, though, college dating life these days is pretty lame.

It takes trial and error, learning about yourself and what you do and don’t like, and experiences with relationships (even with friends) to figure out what is considered a “good relationship”.

So maybe the problem is that not enough college students understand what a real, healthy relationship is supposed to be. It shouldn’t “tie you down” but enhance the adventure and fun of every day. Rather, it should be something you want to be engaged in, something that adds to your already happy-and-satisfied-independent-life. But is it supposed to be a duty, something you’re required to do? Well, if you feel that way, I think you have the wrong idea of what a relationship really is. You’re going for you and studying what you like. Why add on the extra stress and anxiety that allegedly comes with romantic relationships when you can add extracurricular activities to your resume, assume leadership roles in clubs or Greek life, or spend your time freely as you wish? When you’re not tied down, you have so much more liberty, and you don’t have to worry about any obligations towards another person.īut is that what relationships are even about? Obligations? Sheesh, that word just makes it all seem like a task and totally not worth it. In college, you’re kind of allowed to be selfish. Rather than focus on starting or maintaining relationships, students find that their time can be used more efficiently by focusing on themselves. After all, college is the time to discover who you are. It’s true that young adults take their college careers more seriously these days and use their time at university to develop their interests. Let’s be honest, the college dating scene is pretty bleak.
